41 years of activity

In 2024, the School of Ceramics turned 41 years old. In 1983, at the behest of the Municipality of Montelupo Fiorentino, this reality was born with the aim of training new artisans to be able to enter the ceramic sector. Today, after various managements by other entities, the School is administered and coordinated by the Experimental Ceramics Center and is housed in the former Colorobbia color factory on Via Gramsci in downtown Montelupo.

It will soon expand its area to nearly 1,500 square meters of covered area.

The interior spaces are divided into offices and teaching management, classrooms for theoretical-practical lessons, relaxation rooms intended for the daily stay of students, and finally laboratories equipped for all purely practical activities with related professional equipment for groups of up to 14 students. The new spaces, on the other hand, will make it possible to expand and complete the offer towards a respectable panorama of users. In addition to the training courses already activated from 2019, new partnership activities with institutes, academies and other entities will be able to be added, as well as services agreed upon with third parties and private individuals, such as hosting artist residencies or hosting artisans who want to deepen and update their professional curriculum by making a special immersive experience in a unique and adequately equipped place.

The goal of the Experimental Ceramics Center, thanks also and above all to its school, is to place itself in a national dimension, at the center of the artisan ceramics sector, as a reference point for all artisans, ceramists, artists and professionals interested in this subject. Collaboration with master craftsmen and startups in the area already makes it possible to lay the foundations for an extremely interesting and profitable future development for the entire ceramic sector, but above all to prepare the new professionals of tomorrow.
